Monster Meets His Maker

On Friday we hit the road with John Pavlovich and Chris Piaggi for a very special mission. In the late 50's Bill Grant built one of the country's first drag cars. Powered by a V12 Allison aircraft engine, the car was aptly named Monster. The Scroungers had brought Monster up from Wellington for the Blowout and Chris and John wanted to reunite man and machine - maybe for the last time. Bill is 85 and suffered a stroke a short time ago. We headed for Tauranga with Monster in tow and knew what we were doing was pretty damn important. We will have the full story in the next issue - until then here's a few shots. We also saw a horse in a drive through, but more on that later!

Nostalgia Drags - remember?

Took the hot rod down to Meremere for the Nostalgia Drags - the weather was insane. Open headers and open car equals almost deaf when I got there, which was nice. Bay Rodders did good once again - this is the highlight of the drag season for me. Here's a few shots you dirty dogs - now eat em up! Woof!

Good Friday, Great Saturday, Blowout Sunday.

Rad weekend - the Scroungers Hot Rod Blowout on Sunday was great. Met tons of cool people, drank some cold beer and saw some wicked cars. Thanks to everyone who bought a copy of the first issue. A lot of people asked about subscriptions, we're sorting shit out now so will let you know when we know. We got shit loads of photos from the Blowout so will dish them out soon.

Caught up with Keith Weesner from the Burbank Choppers on Saturday night, he's a good dude and we will have a full interview with him in the next issue. Here's a pic of Keith and Graham Berry checking out one of Graham's insane scratch-built models.

I also met someone from a local automotive mag (a publication I have the utmost respect for I might say). No sooner had I finished ranting about how I'd been reading said publication most of my life and he was telling me to stay away from his advertisers! Nice to meet you too brother.

This Sunday it's the Nostalgia Drags at Meremere - man it's gonna be good. See you there clock makers.
